Family Medicine Residency Curriculum – Big Stone
Lonesome Pine Hospital
The family medicine training program in Big Stone Gap, VA, is 36 months in duration and meets all the basic requirements, including the first-year internship.
Continuity-of-care training
The continuity-of-care training requirement will be filled in a continuity family practice clinic operated by Ballad Health and dedicated solely for the purpose of training residents.
The goal of continuity of care is to build a relationship between the physician and the patient. Patient continuity begins in the FM continuity/Pediatric Continuity clinics and they will follow with their patient throughout residency. We also do home visits for those patients that have limited mobility or other health concerns and are unable to come to the clinic.
Residents will also be assigned a Long-term Care Facility resident with whom they will follow and provide care. Continuity in Obstetrics also is a bit part or training here. As a resident you will follow some patients from initial appointment through the delivery and follow up appointment.
