Family Medicine Residency Curriculum – Big Stone Gap

Lonesome Pine Hospital

The Family Medicine Residency Program in Big Stone Gap, VA is 36 months in duration, including the first year internship, and will guide you through the next steps of your career in medicine.

Continuity of care training

The goal of continuity of care is helping residents learn to build a trusting relationship with their patients throughout their healthcare journey. Patient continuity begins in the Family Medicine and Pediatric Continuity Clinics, and residents will follow their patient throughout the program. We also do home visits for patients that have limited mobility or other health concerns that prevent them from coming to the clinic.

Continuity in Obstetrics also is a big part of our training here. As a resident, you will follow some patients from initial appointment through childbirth and follow-up appointment. We’ll pair you with a patient in a Long-term Care facility so you gain the experience of guiding them through their healthcare journey.
