Vice President, Associate Chief Nurse Executive

Dr. Morgan May serves as Vice President and Associate Chief Nurse Executive for Ballad Health, where she partners with executive and nursing leaders across the health system to advance nursing strategy, strengthen clinical excellence, and promote evidence-based practice. In this role, she supports system-wide alignment of nursing operations, quality outcomes, workforce development, and strategic initiatives that enhance patient care and organizational performance

With more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, Dr. May has held numerous executive and operational leadership positions within Ballad Health and Johnson City Medical Center. Prior to her current role, she served as Vice President and Southern Regional Chief Nursing Officer, providing strategic and operational oversight for eight hospitals, including the region's largest tertiary referral center, Level I Trauma Center, and children's hospital. She also served as Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Johnson City Medical Center, where she led clinical and operational initiatives that improved quality, patient outcomes, and organizational performance.

Throughout her career, Dr. May has championed transformational healthcare initiatives, including nursing workforce development, clinical quality improvement, safety culture, electronic health record implementation, trauma system development, patient acuity optimization, and nursing strategic planning. Her leadership has contributed to numerous organizational achievements, including reductions in healthcare-associated infections, expansion of specialized clinical programs, and advancement of nationally recognized certifications and designations. .

Dr. May earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nursing Leadership, a Master of Science in Nursing Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from East Tennessee State University. She also holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Leadership from Milligan University. She is board certified as a Nurse Executive Advanced (NEA-BC) and is a Fellow of The Advisory Board Company (FABC).

In addition to his executive leadership responsibilities, Dr. May has served as adjunct faculty for regional nursing programs. She remains actively engaged in professional and community service initiatives throughout the region and beyond.
