2025 Servant’s Heart Award Winner

Justine Hill is a great example of someone who simply can’t stop helping others – even in “retirement.” She has dedicated more than 43 years to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tennessee, retiring from full-time work as risk management director, but she continues to consult and assist on various projects, and serves as a patient experience liaison.
She currently works three days a week, triaging patient concerns and requests so other liaisons can focus on rounding on their inpatients – embodying what it truly means to be a patient advocate.
Justine recognized the need for a reliable avenue for patients and families to voice concerns or request assistance, so she took on the responsibility of managing the patient feedback line, including evenings and weekends. Her dedication is unmatched as she responds to concerns promptly and effectively. Few people would give up their personal time to help others, but for Justine, it’s a testament to her unwavering commitment to help others.
She is known for her prompt, compassionate and empathetic responses to patients and families, who often are in their most vulnerable moments. One notable example involved a patient’s concern about an outpatient clinic and unaffiliated lab. Rather than dismissing the issue as not her problem, she personally contacted the outpatient office to ensure the patient received the care they needed.
Saying “no” is just not an option for her when it comes to helping others. Justine has a phenomenal ability to connect with people and put them at ease. Time and again, upset patients or family members are calmed and reassured after speaking with her.
Even when she leaves the office on Thursday, she always tells her team to reach out if they need anything.
Justine's commitment to the health and well-being of Holston Valley’s patients and communities extends outside of the hospital through community service. She plays piano for her church and has volunteered with Friends in Need, a healthcare organization serving the uninsured and underinsured; and has delivered meals through the Meals on Wheels program.
Her compassion, dedication and service to others is an inspiration, and her impact is felt by her colleagues, the community and the many lives she has touched.
