Have questions about primary care, annual wellness visits or screenings? Here are some of our most commonly asked questions.
A primary care provider (PCP) helps you stay healthy by giving regular check-ups, treating illnesses and helping you manage long-term conditions. As you get to know your PCP, they’ll have a detailed understanding of your health history that will help them give you the personalized care you need.
It’s a good idea to see your PCP at least once a year for a check-up. If you have any health problems or concerns, you might need to visit more often. Your PCP can tell you how often you should come in based on your health needs.
Your PCP can give you advice on healthy living, catch health problems early and make sure you get the right preventative care, tests and screenings. They can also help you make a plan to stay healthy through diet, exercise and appropriate medications.
During your first visit, your PCP will ask about your health history, do a physical exam and talk with you about any health concerns you have. This is their chance to get to know you and your health goals. They will also discuss any medicines you take and may order some tests based on the needs you tell them about.
To choose the right PCP, think about what’s important to you. Things like their location, office hours and if they accept your insurance are important factors when choosing your PCP. You can ask friends or family for recommendations, or you can read reviews by clicking on one of our provider profiles.
You can search for providers by specialty, location or if they’re accepting new patients by using the either the search icon at the top right corner of the screen or following this link. Visit our Provider Ratings & Reviews page to learn about the rating system we use for our providers.
An annual wellness visit is a yearly check-up with your doctor to review your health. During this visit, your doctor will ask about your medical history and any changes in your health. The goal is to prevent illness and keep you healthy by catching problems early.
Medical screenings help find treatable conditions like cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure early, when they are easier to treat. Regular screenings and early detection can save lives, help you stay healthy and avoid serious illness.
