Frequently asked questions about the Walk-in Crisis Center

The 24/7 Walk-in Crisis Center is in the same building as Woodridge Hospital, an inpatient facility. Depending on your unique situation, the 24/7 Walk-in Crisis Center can refer you to inpatient services at Woodridge Hospital or to outpatient mental health services after you’re out of crisis so that you can continue your care journey.

Inpatient services involve staying at a psychiatric hospital or facility to receive 24/7 care for mental health issues. This is usually for more severe conditions that need constant supervision for your health and safety. In these instances, we’re here every step of the way to help you through your time of crisis.

Outpatient services are a good option for less severe conditions or ongoing therapy. Our team will connect you with a mental health specialist so you can start your care journey. You’ll live at home and continue your daily life while visiting a mental health clinic or hospital for treatment. We aim to make all outpatient treatment as convenient and supportive as possible to help you get the care you need.

Treatments can include therapy, medication, group sessions and other supportive services. The length of treatment varies based on your unique needs.

Inpatient stays can last a few days to several weeks, while outpatient care can continue for months or even longer. We’ll work with you to create a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your needs and help you feel confident in your care.

Many insurance plans cover both inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. It's best to check with your insurance provider for specific details. Our team is also here to help you navigate insurance questions.

Yes, you can absolutely bring a family member or friend for support. Having someone with you can provide comfort when you’re in crisis.

We’re here to make your stay as comfortable and safe as possible. In case your situation requires inpatient care, we recommend bringing your prescribed medications and the following clothing items:

  • Three changes of clothes (shirts, pants and underwear)
  • One pair of pajamas
  • Two pairs of shoes
    • One pair without strings that must have backs on the shoes
    • One pair of bedroom shoes (no sandals or Crocs)

We will provide you with all the necessary hygiene products

We have a security check-in to make sure that there aren’t any items that could harm you or someone else. You will walk through a metal detector to ensure you do not have any weapons on your person. If you’re admitted to inpatient care, your personal belongings will be placed in a locker to keep them safe while you’re staying with us.

Family support is important, and we encourage it whenever possible. The Walk-in Crisis Center allows your family or friends to sit with you while you’re waiting to learn if you’ll transfer to inpatient care or will leave for outpatient care.

If you are transferred to inpatient care at Woodridge Hospital, there are visiting hours and guidelines to follow for family members.

After your visit, we’ll help you create a follow-up plan so you can take the next steps on your healthcare journey. This may include outpatient services or a referral to a behavioral health specialist. Our goal is to ensure you have the ongoing support and care you need to live a happy, fulfilled life.

We do not accept patients who are actively going through the early stages of detox. We recommend that you go to the emergency room to detox.

If you are experiencing a physical medical emergency or detoxing, call 911 immediately or follow this link to find the emergency room closest to you.
