At Ballad Health, we believe the best care starts with listening to patients, families and caregivers. Your experiences guide us to build a stronger, more compassionate health system.
We created Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFAC) to give patients and families the chance to share honest feedback, bring new ideas and partner directly with Ballad Health leaders. By joining, you become a healthcare advocate and have the opportunity to improve care for everyone in our communities.
The PFAC, also called a patient advocacy council, is a committee that gives patients, caregivers, families and support people a voice in decision-making.
Members share feedback about hospital services, highlight opportunities to improve patient satisfaction and suggest ways to enhance communication between patients and care teams.
Joining the council is a powerful way to give back to your community while serving as a patient advocate.
Many people search for ways to provide feedback about their hospital experience. At Ballad Health, we invite you to bring your concerns, ideas and feedback directly to us by joining a Patient and Family Advisory Council.
This is more than a place to share feedback — it is an opportunity to become a patient advocate, strengthen patient rights and improve care for your community.
As a member, you will:
Share your experiences as a patient, caregiver or support person such as a family member or friend
Partner with Ballad Health leaders to strengthen communication, patient safety and patient rights
Volunteer your time to improve patient experience and community health
Represent diverse voices from across the region
By joining, you help improve patient experience, patient satisfaction and safety for families throughout our region.
Any patient, family member, caregiver or support person who has experienced care at Ballad Health can apply. If you came to the hospital to support a loved one — whether as a spouse, sibling, parent, child, caregiver or friend — you qualify to join the Patient and Family Advisory Council.
Preference goes to patients or support persons who had a care experience in the past year. We welcome people from all backgrounds and build councils that reflect the diversity of our communities.
To apply, complete the online application. Our team will review your application and contact you with next steps.
Yes. You can join the PFAC if you supported a patient as a caregiver, family member, or friend, even if you did not receive care yourself. Your perspective helps improve patient experience, patient safety, and the quality of care at Ballad Health.
Any patient, family member, caregiver or support person can apply. Preference goes to those who had a care experience at Ballad Health in the past year.
PFAC members are chosen by patient experience leaders across Ballad Health who review and verify information on all applications and select applicants with the goal of sustaining diverse and engaged PFAC’s. Application to a PFAC does not guarantee acceptance. Selection for a PFAC is at the discretion of Ballad Health.
PFAC members meet in person or virtually several times a year.
During meetings, members share feedback about their hospital experience, review new initiatives and discuss patient experience council topics such as quality of care, safety and ways to improve.
Hospital leaders listen closely to every voice and use feedback to guide improvements across the health system.
Hospital leaders use PFAC input to improve patient safety, patient experience, communication and overall quality of care.
No. The only requirement is your experience as a patient, family member, caregiver or support person at Ballad Health. Your perspective helps us improve patient safety, patient experience and quality of care.
No. PFAC membership is free and voluntary.
If you visited more than one Ballad Health hospital, please choose the hospital where you’d like to serve on the Patient and Family Advisory Council. The council you join will focus on improving patient experience and safety at that location.
Members usually meet several times a year. Meetings last 1–2 hours. We may also invite members to share input by email or phone.
PFAC members serve for a set term, typically one year. This term allows members to fully engage with the council and contribute to patient experience and safety initiatives.
