Physician Profile

I was born and raised along the Gulf Coast of Texas. After several years of traveling in the Army, my wife and I began looking for a small mountain community to call home. We made our first visit to Elizabethton this past fall and fell in love with the town, the people and the landscape. This community has been truly welcoming to our family. Although we have no prior ties to the area, everyone we’ve encountered throughout our move has made us feel instantly at home. I received my medical training at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed my residency at Fort Benning, Georgia. While stationed at Fort Benning, I met my wife, an elementary school teacher who was working in Atlanta at the time. After my residency, I was appointed Medical Director of the Katterbach Clinic in Ansbach, Germany. I most recently served as a physician for a tactical group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. My wife and I have moved frequently over the past several years, so we are thrilled to make a home with our two (soon to be three) small children in Elizabethton. As a primary care physician, I enjoy the direct contact I have with each of my patients. Every time I meet someone new, I have the chance to share in their life experiences and participate in their personal health goals. I believe that everyone deserves to be respected as an individual with unique experiences, aspirations and expectations. I owe each patient an engaging discussion about their concerns, a collaborative solution to their problems and an uncompromising level of trust. When I am not working, personal fitness is a mainstay of my daily routine. This includes cycling to work if possible, outdoor recreation and resistance training. During my travel overseas and in my academic pursuits, I have seen how urban development directly impacts public health. Therefore, I would like to participate in regional planning that promotes safe walking and cycling routes. I plan to volunteer as-needed for tactical emergency medicine and disaster preparedness, and I would also like to teach classes on survival skills and fitness to interested organizations.
