Diabetes Screenings at Ballad Health

Overview

Understanding the importance of diabetes screening is an important part of your wellness journey. These tests can detect diabetes early, allowing you to make lifestyle changes to prevent complications later in life.

When to start testing

The American Diabetes Association provides thoughtful guidelines to ensure timely detection of diabetes. If you're experiencing symptoms, it's crucial to get tested.

For those without symptoms, screening should commence at age 45 and continue every three years thereafter. However, if you're an adult with a body mass index (BMI) equal to or greater than 25 and have specific risk factors, earlier testing is recommended.

These risk factors include a family history of diabetes, physical inactivity, specific ethnic backgrounds, gestational diabetes history and more.
