The Joint Replacement Center at Johnston Memorial
Johnston Memorial has developed a comprehensive, planned course of treatment for those undergoing joint replacement surgery. This includes education and preparation prior to surgery as well as continued education, therapy and support during your stay and afterwards.
Many of our patients, who return home three to four days after surgery, have referred to The Joint Replacement Center as “Joint Camp.” This unique, dedicated center is located on the 3rd floor at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
After joint replacement
Therapy starts the day after surgery. Patients have therapy at least twice a day until they are discharged from the hospital.
Physical therapy focuses on getting in and out of bed and a chair, walking in the hallway, and going up and down stairs. Occupational therapy focuses on dressing and getting in and out of the bathtub or shower safely.
Many patients are able to participate in group therapy sessions in our large gym area. This makes therapy more enjoyable as patients and their coaches support each other through the recovery process.
- Total knee replacement
- Total hip replacement
- Shoulder surgery
