Lindsey King, a physical therapist at Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion, Virginia, is the type of person who cares for her patients during work hours but doesn’t stop there. Her caring continues outside the hospital and after hours.

A great example is the care she provided one of her patients who suffered a serious hamstring injury while hiking. A surgeon reattached the tendon, but to be able to restore full function in the hamstring and leg, it would require extensive physical therapy. Lindsey took on the complex rehab protocol and worked with the surgeon to make sure the proper rehabilitation was being done, and it was offered at a close location for the patient.

“I could not have asked for a better physical therapist,” said the patient. “Lindsey is truly personally invested in her patients and their outcomes. She has spent hours of her own time researching my injury and various rehabilitation protocols in addition to working with the surgeon to make sure that I would make a full recovery and be able to get back to doing the things I love.”

“Lindsey is always concerned for others, whether it’s her coworkers, patients, family, friends or community. Every time I have a physical therapy session, I hear of another way Lindsey is serving someone.”

Most recently, when Hurricane Helene hit, Lindsey was immediately checking on others and looking for ways to help. The patient and her family were without power for more than a week, so Lindsey invited them into her home to be able to do laundry and have a hot meal that she prepared.

Lindsey often does home visits for physical therapy, after a full day of work, to care for patients who are homebound, in an effort to help them regain or maintain as much mobility as possible. She also teaches physical therapy students in the area.

Lindsey goes above and beyond in her efforts to help her patients and everyone around her. She has the heart of a servant in her daily life.
