2025 Servant’s Heart Award Winner

Greta Morrison is the administrator and chief nursing officer (CNO) at Russell County Hospital in Lebanon, Virginia, a position she has held since 2019. She is highly respected as a leader at the hospital, but also continues to provide hands-on care in numerous ways.
After working as a nurse in the emergency department for 18 years – including serving as nurse manager in the ED and in the intensive care unit – she stepped into the administrator and CNO roles, but Greta still often fills in as a nurse on the floor when needed.
She is known as a strong advocate for her team members, working hard to provide them with the equipment, supplies and training they need. She is always looking for ways to improve the hospital, whether it’s through updating equipment or enhancing the overall appearance of the facility. She cares for her team members and often goes above and beyond for them when they are in need.
Greta is a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), providing care and compassion for those who have suffered sexual assault, and helping collect forensic evidence. She is a fierce advocate for the growth and development of the SANE program within Ballad Health.
In addition, Greta volunteers with local EMS and, working with the Lebanon Lifesaving Crew and New Garden Rescue Squad, has earned both regional and state awards for Nurse With Outstanding Contribution to EMS in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
She works closely with local law enforcement and recently played a large role in placing defibrillators in the vehicles of all Russell County law enforcement officers. Greta also assisted in getting telehealth carts and services in all Russell County schools. She is very active in the “Shop with a Cop” Christmas event to serve needy children. She also has served on the Russell County Board for Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment and serves as an adjunct clinical instructor for Southwest Virginia Community College VATNAP Program.
Somehow, she finds time to raise two daughters and attend their numerous softball, basketball and volleyball games and other activities, while also caring for her aging mother.
Greta Morrison’s life revolves around serving others – as a nurse, as a leader, as a volunteer and as a family member.
