Physician Profile

When I began my career in the medical field, I had a particular interest in patient education. I wanted to be able to explain complex procedures so that my patients could understand outcomes and make responsible decisions. Now, more than 30 years later, I have had the opportunity to communicate the technical aspects of vascular interventions and operations to hundreds of patients and have seen excellent results. I see patients as members of the team, and that education about health leads to positive behavior. Originally from New Jersey, I have spent the majority of my career in Massachusetts until recently when I was recruited to help develop the vascular program here in Abingdon. I have served in various leadership capacities including president and vice president of medical staff at South Shore Hospital, and strive to lead by listening and working as a team. My focus continues to be on developing strong patient-provider relationships, educating patients about low-risk behaviors, and ensuring the highest quality patient-centered care. I believe it is critical as a surgeon to understand patients’ concerns and goals, because they know themselves best and are ultimately responsible for the success or failure of their treatment. My wife of 39 years, Alison, and I are excited to now call Abingdon home after spending most of our lives in Massachusetts with our three children. I enjoy spending my free time being active – either biking, sailing or golfing – as well as reading or memorizing poetry. Aside from outdoor recreation opportunities, I enjoy learning about the history and culture of Appalachia.
