Physician Profile

My father was a chain smoker and had serious COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). He died with respiratory failure when he was just 47; I was in the 9th grade. This made an impact on me that led me to become a pulmonologist and to become very passionate about COPD and smoking cessation. In my practice now I’m dealing with patients who have lung problems such as pneumonia, smoking-related COPD, asthma, respiratory failure and also sleep apnea, which is very common in this area. Cancer is also very common here, and it’s important to diagnose it early and treat it. As a doctor, I feel it’s important for me to be very compassionate about my patients, to have a partnership with them and to develop trust. And, it’s important to be a good listener. Each patient will have a different story so you can’t treat all of them using the same “recipe,” like from a cookbook. You have to listen to find out their actual problems. I’ve worked here now for 13 years. Though I am originally from India and trained in other parts of the U.S. – in Boston and at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, this is my home. It’s so beautiful here with all the mountains. It’s a hidden treasure and nobody knows about it. When I’m not working, I go to the gym and I play golf with my son. It’s a blessing to play golf every weekend with my family.
