Why safe sharps disposal matters

Safe needle disposal is an important part of diabetes care. Used sharps can hurt someone and spread germs if they’re thrown away in regular trash. Using a special sharps or needle container helps keep you, your family and your community safe, while also protecting the environment.

Local sharps disposal program in TN and VA

Participating Ballad Health clinics offer a free sharps container program to help you safely collect and drop off used medical sharps. This service is simple to use and costs you nothing.

How it works

  • Stop by a participating clinic and pick up a free sharps container
  • Use the container at home to safely dispose of you lancets, needles and syringes
  • When your container is full, bring it back to the clinic
  • We’ll give you a clean, empty container and safely dispose of the full one for free
Program guidelines
  • Please use only the sharps container we provide. We can’t accept containers from other places.
  • Drop off your container during regular clinic hours.
  • Lock the container only when it’s full.
