Ballad Health Small Steps Pediatric Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy provides personalized outpatient therapy services for children and young adults. Our team supports growth, development and independence by helping children build movement, communication and daily living skills in a safe, welcoming environment designed just for pediatric patients.
Our clinic is designed exclusively for children and families, with one-on-one care provided by experienced pediatric therapists. We work closely with parents and caregivers to create therapy plans that match each child’s abilities, needs and goals.
Physical therapy helps improve strength, balance and movement.
Occupational therapy supports daily skills such as feeding, dressing, writing, playing and school participation.
Speech therapy helps with speech, language, communication, social skills and swallowing.
Our clinic is designed exclusively with children in mind, creating a safe and engaging space that supports play-based and functional therapy.
We work closely with medical equipment vendors, allowing us to trial equipment with patients and families to determine the best fit for safety, comfort, and daily function.
Many children begin outpatient therapy with a doctor’s referral, though insurance requirements may vary. It’s recommended that you speak with your pediatrician or child’s provider about any conditions your child has that may cause pain or restrict your activities.
Once your child’s physician provides a referral, you or your provider’s office can contact our clinic directly to schedule your visit.
You can also use the Ballad Health app to view and manage your healthcare appointments, access visit details and keep your schedule organized in one convenient place.
Please arrive about 15 minutes prior to your child’s scheduled visit to complete new patient paperwork. You should also bring your physician order for therapy, insurance card and a guardian photo ID.
We also recommend that your child wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. You can expect to begin treatment on the same day as the initial visit and evaluation.
Outpatient rehabilitation includes therapy services you receive at a clinic while continuing to live at home. Appointments are scheduled, and you’ll return home the same day like any other typical doctor’s visit.
Physical therapy focuses on movement, strength, balance and comfort. Occupational therapy helps support everyday activities like getting dressed, bathing, cooking and working.
A physical therapist helps people move better, feel stronger and manage pain. Our therapists create personalized treatment plans with exercises, hands-on care and education to help you improve your strength, balance and flexibility. Physical therapists also help patients who are recovering after an injury or surgery.
Speech therapy supports things like communication, memory, thinking skills and swallowing. It’s used to treat a variety of conditions – from stroke to stuttering help.
Physical therapy should not cause pain. Some activities may feel new or challenging, but our pediatric therapists always work at your child’s comfort level.
Some patients feel better after a few visits, while others feel improvements gradually. Your therapist will track your child’s progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
Our office is located within Bristol Regional Medical Center on the second floor of the west side of the hospital.
We recommend entering through the automatic doors beside the Leonard Family Breast Center. Once inside, take the nearby elevators to the second floor. When you exit the elevators, take a left and walk straight until you see the cream-colored double doors. You will see signs for our location and check-in area.
Patient parking is designated in the lot nearest to the Leonard Family Breast Center. However, designated spots are limited and can fill up on busier days. If designated spots are filled, you can park anywhere in the patient lots nearest to the breast center.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and supportive shoes so they can move easily.
