Many patients begin outpatient therapy with a doctor’s referral, though insurance requirements may vary. If you have questions about coverage, please contact your insurance provider.
We recommend that you speak with your doctor or provider about any conditions you have that may cause pain or restrict speech.
Once your doctor provides a referral, you or your provider's office can contact our clinic directly to schedule your first visit.
Once you've scheduled your first visit, you can use the Ballad Health app to view and manage your healthcare appointments, access visit details and keep your schedule organized in one convenient place.
Please arrive about 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visit to complete new patient paperwork.
You should also bring your physician order for therapy, insurance card and a photo ID.
Outpatient speech therapy includes therapy services you receive at a clinic while continuing to live at home. Appointments are scheduled, and you return home the same day, similar to a typical doctor’s visit.
Speech therapy helps with communication, speech clarity, voice, memory and thinking skills, and swallowing. Therapy can support anyone who is recovery from illness, injury or neurologic conditions, or who are managing long-term communication difficulties.
A speech therapist, or speech-language pathologist (SLP), helps patients improve communication, voice and swallowing skills. Our SLPs create personalized treatment plans that may include exercises, education and technology to support your ongoing health.
Speech therapy should not cause pain. Some activities may feel challenging, especially when working on new skills, but your therapist will always work at a pace that feels comfortable and safe for you.
Some patients feel better after a few visits, while others feel improvements gradually. Your therapist will track your progress and adjust your plan as needed.
Our clinic is located within Bristol Regional Medical Center on the second floor of the west side of the hospital.
We recommend using the entrance beside the Leonard Family Breast Center. Once inside, you can use the nearby elevators to go to the second floor. After exiting the elevators, take a left and walk straight until you find the cream-colored doors. You should see signs for our location.
Patient parking is available in the lot directly in front of the building.
For established patients, we do have a speech-language pathologist who is available for limited hours on the weekends. However, this is on an as-needed basis and depends upon scheduling and patient care needs.
