Annual Shamrock 4 Miler set for March 15; registration is open

Break out your running shoes and St. Patrick’s Day attire; the annual Johnston Memorial Hospital Shamrock 4 Miler and Leprechaun Walk is set for Friday, March 15, at 7 p.m.

The race is presented by Highlands Union Bank and benefits the Johnston Memorial fund of the Ballad Health Foundation.

The start and finish line will be located in the heart of downtown at the Abingdon Farmers’ Market on Remsburg Drive.

Over the last eight years, the Shamrock 4 Miler has grown considerably, and now boasts an average of 650 participants from all over the region. Last year, it raised more than $16,000 for the Johnston Memorial Hospital Foundation. The annual race is one of the many special events held throughout the year that benefit the foundation, which supports the growing needs of health care in Southwest Virginia.

Participants can preregister for the race through 9 p.m., Thursday, March 14, at www.JMHShamrock.com. The discounted early registration fee for the Shamrock run is $25 for adult runners and $15 for runners under age 12. Preregistration for the 1.3-mile Leprechaun Walk is $15 for participants of all ages. Special Shamrock 4 Miler medals and t-shirts will be handed out to participants.

Day-of registration for both events and packet pick-up for preregistered participants will be held prior to the race from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at the Abingdon Farmers’ Market. Day-of registration fees are $30 for adult runners, $15 for runners under 12, and $20 for all walkers.
