Ballad Health unveils renovated Bristol Surgery Center, offering care for a variety of outpatient surgical needs

Patients who need outpatient surgery can now receive care from the newly renovated and enhanced Bristol Surgery Center.

The center features four operating rooms and one minor procedure room, ample parking and comfortable waiting areas. Renovations also included new flooring, doors, ceilings, furniture and artwork, as well as upgrades to its HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems. Ballad Health also installed LED surgical lighting and fixtures throughout the suite.

“With the renovated Bristol Surgery Center, we’re increasing patient and visitor comfort, as well as improving the overall experience,” said Greg Neal, chief executive officer of Bristol Regional Medical Center and president of Ballad Health’s northeast market. “These renovations will enable our surgical experts to perform at the very best of their abilities, which will ultimately result in better experiences and outcomes.”

Neal noted the renovations to Bristol Surgery Center will minimize the facility’s maintenance needs, thereby reducing interruptions to patient scheduling and care. The updates have also made the surgical suites more environmentally friendly by improving their energy efficiency.

Procedures performed at Bristol Surgery Center include those for orthopedics; neck and spine; ear, nose and throat; pain management; and podiatry. Bristol Surgery Center also offers pediatric surgeries such as ear, nose and throat procedures, as well as sports medicine surgeries.

The physicians of Bristol Surgery Center are members of the medical staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center and will continue to care for patients at the hospital in addition to outpatients in the surgery center.

“When it comes to patient care, the physicians and team members who provide that care definitely know best,” said Steve Kilgore, senior vice president of retail and physician services for Ballad Health. “The leadership provided by the physician partners of Bristol Surgery Center is invaluable as we work together to deliver top-quality outpatient surgery to the people of Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.

“While Ballad Health is pleased to offer this state-of-the-art surgical facility, none of its services would be possible without these expert physicians. We greatly appreciate and value their insight and expertise, and we know it means great things for our surgical care.”

Bristol Surgery Center is fully certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), which surveys and accredits ambulatory surgery centers. AAAHC accreditation signifies Bristol Surgery Center’s willingness and ability to participate in ongoing self-evaluation, peer review and education to continuously improve its care and services, as well as a thorough, on-site survey by AAAHC surveyors at least every three years.

Advantages of outpatient surgery include increased convenience, lower costs and reduced stress for patients. Additionally, patients often experience shortened recovery times and fewer post-operative complications.

As a result, many common and routine surgeries, such as joint replacements, are increasingly performed in an outpatient setting. Patients of Bristol Surgery Center can also benefit from its flexible scheduling and emergency alternative options, which enable it to accommodate last-minute appointment requests.
