Air Ambulance

If you need medical care right away, a helicopter might pick you up and rush you to a Ballad Health hospital. On the way there, flight nurses and paramedics will care for you. Count on a WellmontOne, Wings Air Rescue or Med-Flight II air ambulance when you have a condition such as:

  • Heart attack
  • Life-threatening illness
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic (major) injury, such as after a car crash or farm accident
  • Trouble breathing

The WellmontOne helicopter can carry one adult, child or baby who needs emergency care. Sometimes, the air ambulance also takes medicines, lab samples, blood, medical tools or staff to a place that needs them quickly.

Service Area

The WellmontOne air ambulance might pick you up if you’re within about 70 miles of Bristol, where the helicopter is based at Bristol Motor Speedway. Our helicopter also can take you from one hospital to another up to 230 miles away.

If you’re within 60 miles of Abingdon, you might get care in a Med-Flight II helicopter. Ballad Health works with Virginia State Police to provide this service.

Highly Trained Crew

Your air ambulance team is trained in how to rescue you and work together to keep you safe. Your pilot is certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. That means you’re in good hands on your way to the hospital.
